MECCANO PARTS
1970-2010 |

Meccano
introduced hundreds of New Parts
during the 70s, and since the end of production in the UK, in 1981. Many New Parts were welcome additions to the Meccano System. Many others are of little or no use outside the set they were introduced with. To my knowledge, a
comprehensive list of such parts has never been produced, and I decided to undertake the task. I have now completed
Indices and Lists for the 1970-1981 (UK), 1970-1988 (France), 1989-1998 and
1998-2010 sub-periods.
Regarding
both existing and new parts, several well-defined colour schemes were used from
1970 to 1996. As from 1997, though, there has not been a single defined colour
scheme. Instead, each new set comes in a different colour, making it a very hard
task to keep record of them all... Nevertheless,
I took up the task of producing All Parts Lists featuring all colour
variations, covering the 1970-2010 period. Four sub-periods were established
(see below). Two lists are now completed and work is in progress to complete the
two remaining ones.
The
introduction of a New Part Numbering System, in 2001, brought about a complete
chaos, for lack of any sense in the new part numbers. Yet, the New Part Numbers
are there, and I felt the need to produce two Conversion Tables to help to use
them. They are detailed at the bottom of this page.
I have the pleasure to invite you to download
the lists presented below. All feedback on
their usefulness and suggestions for improvement as well as eventual
corrections will be most appreciated.

INDICES TO
NEW PARTS
1970-1981 (UK), 1970-1988 (France), 1989-1998 and 1998-2010
UPDATED
(Dec 2011)

|
Indices consist of collections of thumbnail size pictures of all the
116, 98, 115 and 364 New Parts of each of the periods, organized by Part Number. Last
pages of the two latter Indices provide comparative details on Nuts & Bolts, Tri-flat Axles and
Wheels & Tyres.

ILLUSTRATED LISTS OF
NEW PARTS
1970-1981 (UK), 1970-1988 (France), 1989-1998 and 1998-2010
UPDATED
(Dec 2011)
|
 The three
earlier lists are organized by part
number.
The
1998-2010 list is a tentative, which tries to put some sense to the chaos that resulted from the new (2001) Meccano parts numbering system. Parts are organized by families and sub-families, and by part numbers within them.
A description, year of introduction, picture and Sets where it has been included are provided for each part.

ILLUSTRATED
LISTS OF
ALL
PARTS
1970-1981 (UK), 1970-1992 (France), 1993-2001 and 2001-2010
NEW
(Aug
2010)

The
above Indices and Lists refer exclusively to New Parts. For the sake of fully
documenting the 1970 to present day period, however, I thought it would be
important to produce lists of all the Meccano Parts available throughout four
different sub-periods. The lists include all parts, either used on sets or available only as spares, and
all colour/finish variations of each part.
At
this point in time (December 2011), the lists for 1970-1992 (France) and 1993-2001
are ready, and can be downloaded. Work is under progress for the two remaining
sub-periods.

CONVERSION
TABLES OLD-NEW
AND NEW-OLD
PART NUMBERS
UPDATED
(Dec 2011)
|
In
2001 Meccano introduced a new Part Numbering System. A*** part numbers (meaning
the capital "A" followed by three digits) were allocated to existing
parts. To entirely new parts, numbers of the type B***, C***, etc. were
allocated, on a strictly consecutive basis.
As
a result, the new Part Numbering System generated a complete chaos, since the
numbers attributed to each part make no sense at all.
Concerning
the old existing parts, and since there is no logical way to convert old to new
part numbers (and vice-versa), I produced two Conversion Tables which can be downloaded from this
site. One of them is for Old to
New and the other for New to Old part numbers.
